Madrid Fair for Science and Innovation

More than 40.000 people visited the “Madrid Fair for Science and Innovation” organized by the “Foundation for Knowledge” madri+d in collaboration with IFEMA.

More than 70 exhibitors from 58 educational centres of the Madrid Community elaborated innovative experiments from 28th - 31st of march, 2019.

One part of the madri+d stand was formed by young researchers with European funding of the Marie Sklodowska-Curie actions, a Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme.

With the aim of promoting these MSCurie actions and in order to awaken the visitor’s curiosity via small workshops and experiments, the “Foundation for Knowledge” invited us to talk about the topic of antimicrobial resistance.

In the workshops we educated the visitors in laboratory methods of cultivating bacteria and how to study their morphology with a microscope. Furthermore, we created a space of dialogue in order to give information on Marie Sklodowska-Curie actions and specifically the project CARTNET, in which we take part.

With a “10yearchallange” of antibiograms made from two strains of the same bacterial specie, one from 2009 and the other from 2019, we drew attention to the dimensions of antimicrobial resistance and the important role that researchers play in addressing these problems.

Here below are some impressions from the fair.
